Our Story
Growing up in Mississippi, the culture of community service instilled a profound lesson: the joy of helping others. This lesson became a guiding principle when a chance encounter with a pediatric cancer patient named Randa changed everything. During a telethon for the Children’s Miracle Network in 2000, Randa’s radiant smile after receiving a tiara sparked the inception of the For A Day Foundation.
From that moment, the mission became clear: to create emotionally therapeutic experiences for seriously ill children. The first event was hosted at a children’s hospital in Jackson, Mississippi, and soon, chapters blossomed across California, Illinois, New York, and Mississippi. The foundation’s programs, Queen for a Day and Hero for a Day, have since provided countless children with moments of joy amidst their battles with illness.
Each child’s story is a testament to resilience and hope. The optimism displayed by these children, even in the face of life-threatening conditions, inspires everyone involved. One of the most heartwarming moments was when a former patient returned to volunteer, showcasing the cycle of giving and healing. Conversely, the poignant request of another patient to be buried with her tiara reminds us of the deep emotional connections formed through our work.
As the foundation continues to grow, the focus has shifted to fulfilling small and medium wishes for families, especially during the challenges posed by Covid-19. Customizing experiences based on family preferences ensures that each moment spent together is cherished. The For A Day Foundation remains committed to bringing smiles and joy to those who need it most.
