Our Story

Foothills Conservancy began as the South Mountains Coalition, a dedicated group of volunteers committed to safeguarding the 35,000-acre heart of the South Mountains from clear-cutting and subdivision. Officially incorporated as a nonprofit land trust in 1995, the organization was renamed in 1997 to reflect its broader mission. Since then, it has successfully protected over 70,000 acres of land across Western North Carolina.

Impact

Since its inception, Foothills Conservancy has preserved over 70,000 acres of vital land, ensuring the protection of natural resources for future generations.
