Founded in 1978 by Tom Ferraro, Foodlink began as a community food and nutrition program in the Greater Rochester and Finger Lakes region of New York. Over the years, it has evolved into a regional food bank, mobilizing a diverse network of community partners to tackle both the symptoms and root causes of food insecurity. Foodlink's mission is to leverage the power of food to end hunger and build healthier communities.
Foodlink distributes millions of pounds of food annually and prepares over a million healthy meals for students. With a staggering 47% increase in requests for food assistance compared to the previous year, the need for Foodlink's services has never been greater. Programs like the Community Kitchen and Curbside Market directly enhance the health and food security of thousands in the region.
