Our Story

Founded in 2011 in Fairfield County, Food Rescue US emerged from the vision of Jeff Schacher and Kevin Mullins, who recognized the dual challenges of food insecurity and food waste. Initially known as Community Plates, the organization quickly gained traction and expanded its mission. In 2017, it rebranded to Food Rescue US, reflecting its growing national presence. Today, it operates in 43 locations across 23 states and the District of Columbia, having rescued over 166 million meals and diverted 199 million pounds of food from landfills.
