Our Story
What began as a college thesis has transformed into a vibrant movement. Co-founder Jahman Hill's theory, 'The Flourish,' asserts that 'Black people are infinitely possible beings.' Flourish Alabama is dedicated to nurturing young artists, providing them with the tools and opportunities to bloom through collaborative art projects and workshops.
Founded by Eric Marable, Jr. and Jahman Hill, Flourish Alabama operates through two main wings: outreach and events. The outreach wing focuses on empowering the youth of Birmingham, AL, with programs ranging from in-school initiatives to one-time workshops. Collaborations with local institutions like the Birmingham Public Library and Ramsay High School have enriched the community.
The events wing serves as a platform for artists to showcase their talents. The Flourish at the Freedom House, a flagship monthly event, highlights musicians, poets, and visual artists from across the South, creating a safe and supportive environment for expression. Additionally, 'Flourish Fests' provide Birmingham youth with opportunities to present their work, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
