Our Story

Founded in the early 1990s by Claire Johnson in Dallas, Texas, Floot Fire began as a summer workshop at SMU Meadows School of the Arts. The initiative aimed to inspire high school and middle school students while strengthening the local flute community. In the following year, Kimberly Walter-Clark co-founded the Houston camp, expanding the organization’s reach into the bayou city and surrounding areas. Over the past two decades, Floot Fire has evolved to include in-person camps across the country, virtual classes, adult education, and competitions. Our dedicated faculty have authored four instructional books and have performed at the National Flute Association conference multiple times.

Impact

Floot Fire is committed to inspiring and educating flutists and teachers through meaningful artistic experiences, providing students of all ages the opportunity to grow through music.
