Our Story

Floodplains Forever was founded by Charlie Pick, a resident of the North Branch of the Chicago River floodplain. This organization is dedicated to expanding floodplain capacity throughout the Continental United States, particularly in the Mississippi River watershed, addressing the challenges posed by climate change and human development.

Our Impact

By reconnecting waterways with their original floodplains, Floodplains Forever helps prevent flood damage, enhances wildlife habitats, and creates recreational areas. Collaborating with various stakeholders, the organization assesses and protects flood-prone areas while removing levees to allow for natural flooding.
