Our Story

Founded in 1926 by Pauline Bray Fletcher, the first African American R.N. in Alabama, Camp Fletcher was created to provide inner city black children with opportunities to explore nature. The camp's legacy was solidified after a Ku Klux Klan raid in 1948 led to Alabama's first anti-masking law. In 2004, BridgeWays acquired the property, and in 2016, the Fletcher Preserve Supporting Organization was established to ensure this vital community asset remains available for future generations.

Impact

BridgeWays connects young people to their peers, schools, and families, fostering a sense of hope and purpose that helps them become responsible citizens.
