Our Story
Founded in 1999 by photojournalist David Edwards and a dedicated group of Flagstaff residents, Flagstaff International Relief Effort (FIRE) was established to combat the severe economic hardships faced by Mongolia after the collapse of its Soviet-supported economy. Initially focused on delivering basic aid, FIRE has evolved to emphasize sustainable public health programs, particularly in liver health and hepatitis elimination.
Impact
FIRE has made significant strides in Mongolia, providing critical health services and educational support to underserved communities. The organization has trained thousands of healthcare workers and implemented innovative hepatitis screening projects, aiming to eliminate hepatitis C in Sukhbaatar province by 2024.
