Our Story

First Light began in the basement of First Presbyterian Church in 1983, providing emergency shelter for women and children. Initially accommodating 15 guests, the shelter often served over 40 individuals in need. Recognizing the growing demand for services, First Light was incorporated in 1998 and launched a capital campaign to renovate the old Granada Hotel, transforming it into a comprehensive facility for homeless women and children. Today, First Light stands as a beacon of hope, thanks to the unwavering support from local communities and organizations.

Our Impact

First Light offers three meals a day, case management services, and a wealth of resources to assist guests in re-establishing their lives. With a focus on individualized care planning, the organization collaborates with various agencies to meet complex needs, ensuring access to healthcare, legal assistance, job training, and more. This holistic approach empowers guests to secure employment, housing, and ultimately rebuild their lives.
