Our Story
First Generation College Bound (FGCB) was founded in 1990 by Joseph Fisher, who began his mission by walking door-to-door in a public housing complex in Laurel, Maryland. FGCB inspires low-income and first-generation youth to achieve social and economic success through academic support and guidance. The organization has developed a comprehensive pipeline of educational interventions to help students graduate from high school, gain college admissions, and earn post-secondary degrees.
Impact
FGCB has successfully supported over 2,800 students in entering college, with 1,088 alumni, and awarded $3.4 million in financial aid to the Class of 2023. The organization has a proven track record of increasing the high school graduation rate of at-risk students and ensuring their success in higher education.
