Our Story

Established in 1954 to honor Dr. Roy A. Burkhart, the First Community Foundation was born from a vision of service and love. Originally part of First Community Church, it became an independent nonprofit in 1961, dedicated to supporting vital church missions and ministries. Over the years, the Foundation has grown significantly, with assets increasing from $136,663 in 1964 to nearly $11 million today, managing over 100 funds to address community needs.

The Foundation plays a crucial role in supporting initiatives like the Heart to Heart Food Pantry, which serves hundreds of families each week, and the Mexico Mission, where youth build homes for families in need. Scholarships provided by the Foundation ensure that these impactful programs continue to thrive.
