Our Story

The Firehouse Theatre Project was founded on October 17, 1993, by a passionate group dedicated to producing Richmond premieres of contemporary American plays. Over the years, the organization has evolved, merging with The New Theatre in 2021 to enhance its mission of showcasing innovative American theatre that reflects diverse voices. This rich history of community engagement and artistic collaboration has made Firehouse a vital part of the Richmond arts scene.

Our Impact

Firehouse Theatre has established itself as an accessible and diverse space for performances, premiering new plays and creating opportunities for both emerging and established artists. With over seventy performances each season and more than two hundred evenings of live entertainment annually, the organization significantly expands community access to the arts.
