Our Story

Feast Down East began its journey in 2006 as the Southeastern North Carolina Food Systems Program, a grassroots initiative founded by Leslie Hossfeld and Rev. Mac Legerton. In response to job loss and high poverty rates, this program aimed to foster economic and community development through a healthy, accessible local food system. In 2010, it evolved into the nonprofit organization known as Feast Down East, dedicated to nurturing partnerships and supporting local farmers while addressing food access issues.

Our Impact

Through various programs and partnerships, Feast Down East has made significant strides in distributing local produce, increasing access to nutritious food, and supporting farm businesses. In 2023, the organization reported substantial sales back to farmers, awarded scholarships to local farmers, and facilitated food access for low-income families.
