Our Story

Farm to Pantry began with a simple observation in Healdsburg, where founder Melita Love noticed an abundance of fruit trees in her neighborhood, with beautiful fruit rotting on the ground. Recognizing that 1 in 4 people in Sonoma County face food insecurity, Melita took action. In 2008, Farm to Pantry was established to address this pressing need by connecting local growers and volunteers to provide fresh, healthy produce to those in need.

Our Mission

The mission of Farm to Pantry is to unite communities to combat food injustice and mitigate global warming by rescuing and distributing locally-grown food to marginalized populations. The vision is a just food system where everyone has access to nourishing food that supports community health and environmental sustainability.

Impact

In 2023 alone, Farm to Pantry rescued an impressive 429,462 pounds of produce, contributing to over 7.5 million servings of fruits and vegetables delivered since 2008. This achievement is made possible by the dedication of over 350 volunteer gleaners, 250+ property owners, and more than 100 community partners. By diverting food waste from landfills, the organization also prevents methane pollution, equivalent to removing 44 cars from the road for a year.
