Our Story

The Fannie Lou Hamer Institute of Advocacy & Social Action was founded by Paulene Angelicia Simmons to honor the legacy of civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer. Established in 2014, the Institute launched the Fannie Lou’s Girls Program, dedicated to providing educational programming for Black girls aged 6-18, fostering community activism and leadership in culturally safe spaces.

Impact

Over 20 Black girls have benefited from our Saturday sessions and the Annual Her~She Girls’ Leadership Summer Camp, gaining essential skills in debate, advocacy, and civic engagement.
