Our Story

Family Promise was founded by Karen Olson after a chance encounter with a homeless woman, which opened her eyes to the deeper issues surrounding homelessness. In 1986, she established the first interfaith hospitality network in New Jersey, evolving into a national organization dedicated to providing shelter and support to families in need. Renamed Family Promise in 2003, the organization reflects its commitment to ending family homelessness and recognizing the potential within every family.

Our Impact

For every $1 raised, Family Promise returns $3 in goods and services. An impressive 85% of families sheltered find housing, with a total of 1,830 individuals served.
