Our Story
Founded in 2003 by Sharron Whitaker, Family Care Connection emerged from a deep commitment to strengthen families of color living in marginalized communities. With a career in social work that began in 1974, Sharron recognized the urgent need for culturally specific services that empower families facing systemic challenges. Her journey began with a focus on adoption and evolved into a mission to address the disproportionality affecting families of color in the Child Welfare System.
Over the past 21 years, Family Care Connection has dedicated itself to providing essential services such as education, counseling, and advocacy. These initiatives promote responsible parenting and enhance self-worth, ultimately fostering safer familial relationships. The organization has successfully secured state, federal, and city funding to support its mission, ensuring that families receive the resources they need to thrive.
