Empowering Families and Children in La Porte County

Family Advocates Inc, formerly known as Harmony House/CASA Program of La Porte County, has been a beacon of hope for at-risk children and families since its inception in 1990. Originally established as The La Porte County CASA Program, this organization has dedicated over three decades to providing Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers for abused and neglected children. With a mission rooted in advocacy, Family Advocates has trained 422 volunteers who have collectively spent approximately 1,448,445 hours supporting over 2,300 children in need.

A Safe Haven for Families

In 1999, recognizing the need for a nurturing environment, Family Advocates partnered with Swanson Center to create Harmony House, a supervised visitation and safe exchange program. This facility allows families to interact in a home-like setting, fostering connections and providing essential parent education. By 2020, Harmony House had facilitated 55,133 hours of supervised visitation, ensuring that non-custodial parents could maintain meaningful relationships with their children.

Expanding Services for Youth

In 2012, Family Advocates launched a volunteer program aimed at mentoring youth facing behavioral challenges. The Court Youth Advocates program provides one-on-one support to teens involved in probation or alternative education, helping them navigate their challenges and achieve personal growth. This initiative continues to thrive, offering mentorship even after the youth complete their programs.

Impacting Lives Through Generosity

Family Advocates has recently received a $300,000 matching grant from United Ways of Indiana and a $25,000 matching grant from the Health Foundation of La Porte. These funds will support the 'New Beginnings Project,' aimed at purchasing a larger facility to expand critical services for youth and families. Every donation made will be matched 2:1 up to $25,000 and 1:1 up to $300,000, doubling the impact of your generosity.
