Our Story
Founded by Amy Newman, a dedicated teacher in Waukegan, Families Helping Families Chicagoland emerged from a heartfelt mission to honor her mother, YY, who exemplified generosity. What began as a simple Facebook post seeking help quickly transformed into a vibrant community initiative, with volunteers from diverse backgrounds uniting to support families in need. Within two years, FHFC achieved 501c3 status, solidifying its commitment to serving the community. Today, an all-volunteer board, composed of parents with varied experiences, continues to drive this mission forward.
Impact
Families Helping Families Chicagoland has made a significant difference in the lives of countless families. Immediate needs have been met, such as providing a two-month supply of formula and food for a family of three-year-old twins who lost their mother unexpectedly. Additionally, 30 Caring Kits were created for Refugee One, ensuring new families in Chicago have a smoother transition. Hundreds of children have been sponsored during the holidays, receiving gifts from their wish lists, while winter coats, hats, gloves, and scarves have been distributed to children in local shelters. Over 100 foster children are celebrated on their birthdays each year, and thousands of school supplies and food items have been collected to support local schools and pantries.
