Our Story
In search of innovative housing solutions for their son with autism, Allan and Sara Crimm began connecting with other families in the Philadelphia area who shared similar hopes and dreams. Their journey began in July 2012 when they hosted a public meeting that attracted over 80 attendees. This gathering marked the inception of a monthly networking event aimed at exploring housing options and support systems for individuals with disabilities. In 2013, Families CCAN became a registered nonprofit, continuing to host resource meetings for families and professionals alike.
In 2015, Families CCAN organized a pivotal conference titled "Solving the Housing Crisis for Adults with Disabilities: Challenges, Opportunities and Innovation," which drew over 300 participants, including family members, service providers, and legislators. This event underscored the urgent need for community-based housing options that prioritize choice and control for adults with disabilities. Today, Families CCAN has developed its own grassroots housing program, Creating Family Networks, which empowers families and individuals to work towards independence through training and support.
