About Faith in Action Georgetown

Founded in 2000, Faith in Action Georgetown began as a response to the pressing need for transportation services for seniors in the Georgetown community. Initially part of the Georgetown Information and Volunteer Exchange (G.I.V.E), the organization has evolved significantly over the years. With the support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, it became an independent entity in 2003, dedicated to providing volunteer transportation and support services that help seniors maintain their independence and quality of life.

Our Journey

In 2007, the organization adopted the name Faith in Action Caregivers-Georgetown to align with the national Faith in Action Volunteer Caregiver movement. By 2012, the name was further refined to Faith in Action – Georgetown, reflecting the mission and vision of the organization. The introduction of the Faith in Action – Driving Seniors program in 2017 marked a significant expansion, allowing for full-time ride scheduling and coordination.

Innovative Programs

In 2018, the Go-Van-Go program was launched, providing group grocery trips and social outings for seniors. This initiative has proven to be a lifeline, with the organization surpassing 10,000 rides in 2018 and setting a new record of 13,612 rides in 2019. The COVID-19 pandemic prompted the implementation of the Buddy Program, which connected volunteers with clients for social check-ins and assistance with grocery needs.

Looking Ahead

As of 2023, Faith in Action Georgetown is set to serve over 900 clients, thanks to the launch of the Pay Your Pal pilot program, supported by a generous federal grant. A new minivan has been purchased to enhance service delivery, ensuring that seniors continue to receive the essential support they need.
