Our Story
The journey of Trust for Africa began in 1980 when founder Reno Schalm relocated his family from Canada to the mountains of Lesotho. For over a decade, Reno and his wife, Nancy, dedicated themselves to rural development and education, forging deep connections within the community. As the HIV and AIDS crisis ravaged sub-Saharan Africa in the 1990s, the couple witnessed firsthand the devastating impact on families and children. Thousands of children were left orphaned, prompting the establishment of Trust for Africa in 2007 to provide care for these vulnerable children.
