Following the legalization of same-sex marriage in 2015, significant gaps in legal protections remained, prompting the formation of a coalition of attorneys, law enforcement officials, and community leaders dedicated to fostering equality and justice.

Through initiatives like the Fair Michigan Justice Project, the foundation ensures that crimes against LGBTQ+ individuals are thoroughly investigated and prosecuted. The Name Change Project assists transgender individuals in obtaining legal identification that reflects their true gender, while also providing essential support services such as housing, healthcare, and trauma recovery.

Fair Michigan is committed to raising awareness and promoting cultural competency through training programs for law enforcement and community organizations, ensuring that the rights of LGBTQ+ individuals are recognized and respected.
