Our Story

Excel By 5 was founded by kindergarten teacher Debby Renfroe and her husband Steve, who recognized the need for children to be developmentally ready for school. In collaboration with early childhood experts, they developed a certification program for 'child-friendly' communities. Launched in 2004 with support from Chevron, this initiative focuses on community collaboration to address children's needs in education, health care, safety, and childcare.
