In 2010, Dr. David Fajgenbaum, a third-year medical student, faced a life-threatening battle with Castleman disease. After months in critical condition, he launched an initiative to find treatments that could save his life and others. His team discovered an overactive immune pathway and repurposed a 25-year-old drug, leading to his remission and benefiting countless others.
