Every Campus A Refuge

Our Story

Founded in September 2015 at Guilford College by Dr. Diya Abdo, Every Campus A Refuge (ECAR) was inspired by Pope Francis’ call for parishes to host refugee families. This initiative mobilizes colleges and universities to partner with local refugee resettlement agencies, providing housing and support for refugees on campus grounds. Since its inception, ECAR has successfully hosted 66 refugees and 18 Afghan evacuees, fostering a culture of compassion and empathy among students.

Impact

With chapters established at 16 campuses across the U.S., ECAR has made a significant impact in the lives of refugees. The initiative has garnered recognition from the White House and the United Nations, receiving multiple awards for its civic engagement and service-learning efforts.
