Our Story
The Ethiopian Community in Minnesota (ECM) was founded in 1995 to unite Ethiopians and enhance their ability to make a difference in their lives and community. For nearly two decades, ECM has served thousands by providing essential services such as translation, advocacy, job counseling, and housing assistance. A key focus has been empowering community members to embrace their rich heritage and traditions. This includes establishing Amharic language classes for youth, fostering participation among women and the elderly, and inspiring a sense of national pride. ECM strives to include all members of the Ethiopian community, regardless of ethnicity, age, gender, language, sexual orientation, religious background, or political affiliation. By engaging the younger generation, ECM ensures the sustainability of the community for years to come.
