Our Story

The Ethical Culture Fieldston School, founded by Felix Adler in 1878, was established to ensure that all children have access to a quality education. Originally known as the Workingman’s School, it emphasized moral education and the integration of creative and manual arts with academics, forming the foundation of progressive education. Today, ECFS operates two historic campuses in Manhattan and the Bronx, continuing its legacy of educational excellence.

Our Impact

At the heart of ECFS's educational program is the study and practice of ethics, which inspires a diverse community of passionate learners and critical thinkers. This commitment prepares students to care for the world, themselves, and each other, fostering a more humane and just society.
