The Equality Crew was founded in April 2021 by Phoenix May, a 14-year-old transgender Arkansan, who recognized the urgent need for a supportive community for LGBTQ+ youth in Arkansas. With the help of community leaders, an LGBTQ+ led board was established, and The Equality Crew was officially launched at Siloam Springs Pride 2021. The organization has since created the state’s only Affirming Teacher and School Staff Database, connecting LGBTQ+ students with affirming educators.
By fostering a safe and inclusive environment, The Equality Crew has significantly enhanced the sense of belonging within the LGBTQ+ community, empowering individuals to express their identities openly.
