Providing High-Quality Services and Housing

Our Story

Founded in 1975 with a vision to enhance the lives of older adults, the Episcopal Retirement Communities Foundation (ERC) has a rich history rooted in compassion and service. Originally established prior to 1960, ERC was revitalized through a generous bequest from Ms. Helen Long, who believed in using her wealth to benefit the community. This funding allowed ERC to develop housing and services tailored for the elderly in the Diocese of Olympia.

In 1990, under the leadership of Executive Director David P. Steele, ERC began to flourish. The opening of Canterbury Manor in Bremerton in 1994 marked a significant milestone, providing affordable housing and essential services for over two decades. Following this success, St. Andrew’s Place was established in Port Angeles, becoming the only non-profit assisted living community on the North Olympic Peninsula that accepts Medicaid seniors upon admission.

Impact

ERC is dedicated to serving communities by ensuring older adults live with dignity and independence.
