Empty Bowls Monongalia

Our Story

In 2006, Mavis Grant-Lilley was inspired by an Empty Bowls luncheon in Huntington, WV. She envisioned a similar event in Morgantown to support the Community Pancake Breakfast. With the collaboration of local artisans and community members, the first Soup and Bread Luncheon raised $4,750, leading to the establishment of Empty Bowls Monongalia. This initiative has evolved into a community-wide effort to combat food insecurity through annual luncheons and grants to local food assistance agencies.

Impact

Empty Bowls Monongalia has awarded $105,000 to 25 nonprofits dedicated to alleviating hunger in Monongalia County. The organization raises awareness about hunger issues and provides essential resources to local agencies.
