EmpowHer Institute: A Journey of Empowerment

Founded by Betty LaMarr, EmpowHer Institute emerged from a personal journey of transformation. From a pregnant teen to a corporate executive, Betty's experiences fueled her passion to uplift disadvantaged girls and women. After witnessing the power of micro-enterprise in South Africa, she returned to Los Angeles to establish EmpowHer Institute in 2003, focusing on the dropout crisis among African-American and Hispanic teen girls.

Impacting Lives Since 2003

EmpowHer Institute has positively impacted over 4,500 Black and Hispanic girls in Los Angeles County. With a 100% high school graduation rate and college attendance among participants, the organization is dedicated to changing lives through education and mentorship.
