The organization was founded by Veronika Scott, who, during her time as a design student, created a coat that could transform into a sleeping bag for those in need. This innovative solution sparked a movement, leading to the establishment of a nonprofit that not only provides warmth but also offers employment to those who need it most.

Today, Empowerment Plan employs individuals who are homeless or have experienced homelessness, training them to manufacture the coats and providing them with the skills necessary to secure stable employment. This model not only addresses immediate needs but also fosters long-term self-sufficiency.
