Emmaus Catholic Hospice

Our Story

Founded in 1923 by four Dominican Sisters, Emmaus Catholic Hospice has a rich history of caring for the sick and poor in Denver. Known as the Sidewalk Samaritans, these dedicated nurses provided end-of-life care that honored both the physical and spiritual needs of their neighbors. In 1989, the organization transitioned to a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, focusing on home hospice care, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, which underscored the need for authentic Catholic end-of-life care.
