Our Story

Established in 1965 amidst the Civil Rights and Black Power movements, Elmcor Youth and Adult Activities, Inc. was founded by passionate community members in East Elmhurst/Corona, Queens, New York. This coalition, which included members of the Black Panther Party, aimed to address the pressing needs of their community. From humble beginnings with three recreational programs and a seniors’ club, Elmcor has grown into a leading provider of human justice-based services, proudly standing as the longest continuously-operating Black-led organization in Queens.

Impact

Each year, Elmcor serves thousands through its behavioral health, youth, older adult, and economic development services. Community members benefit from overdose prevention training, while families receive nutritious food weekly from our supermarket-style food pantry. Youth engage in leadership development and entrepreneurship programming, fostering a new generation of community leaders.
