Our Story
The Elkhart County 4-H Fair has a rich history dating back to 1851 when the first fair was held on the Goshen Court House square. This two-day exhibition was designed to unite farmers, livestock breeders, and county commissioners to celebrate agricultural achievements and discuss advancements in the field. After a hiatus due to financial struggles and the Civil War, the fair reopened in 1908, quickly becoming a cherished community event.
In 1955, a new volunteer fair board was established, leading to the merger of the 4-H club fair with the county fair, creating the Elkhart County 4-H Fair as it is known today. Over the years, the fair has grown into one of Indiana's largest fairs, attracting over 200,000 guests annually during its nine-day run. The fairgrounds have expanded from 48 acres to a sprawling 380-acre facility, featuring more than 70 structures utilized year-round, all thanks to the unwavering support of the community and a dedicated volunteer board of over 130 members.
