Our Story

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center, established in 1979, began as a vital Community Improvement Project aimed at offering immediate shelter and support for women and children facing domestic violence. Named after a 19th-century activist, the center has evolved to include services for men and the LGBTQ+ community, ensuring comprehensive support for all survivors. With a dedicated Community Center, EBCC continues to expand its outreach and impact.

Impact

Each year, EBCC provides free, confidential support to over 4,000 survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault in Rhode Island. Through advocacy, counseling, and emergency shelter, the center plays a crucial role in transforming lives.
