Our Story
Founded in 1950, the Elgin Symphony Orchestra began as the Elgin Civic Symphony Orchestra, led by Douglas Steensland. Over the years, it evolved into a professional orchestra in 1985, gaining recognition for its artistic excellence and community engagement. With notable music directors like Grammy award-winner Margaret Hillis and Andrew Grams, the ESO has consistently prioritized innovative programming. In 2023, Chad Goodman took the helm as the fifth music director, continuing this legacy.
