El Sistema Oklahoma

Our Story

El Sistema Oklahoma is a transformative nonprofit founded through a creative partnership between Cathy and Phil Busey, St. Luke’s Methodist Church, and the Wanda L. Bass School of Music at Oklahoma City University. For over ten years, this initiative has provided free music opportunities to students in Oklahoma City Public Schools, ensuring that no audition is required for participation. With after-school programs running five days a week, students receive free snacks, transportation, instruments, and translation services.

Impact

El Sistema Oklahoma proudly serves 200 students annually across 16 schools, boasting a remarkable 95% retention rate. With two music sites, including the original orchestral site in downtown Oklahoma City and the Corazón Vocal Program in Edmond, the program has produced 52 graduates since 2020, who have collectively received over $3 million in college scholarships.
