Our Story

DAYS Long Beach was founded in 1970 by community activists Dorothy and Edwin Baker, who recognized the urgent need for free educational programs for disadvantaged children in Long Beach. With a vision that every child deserves access to inspiring programs in a safe environment, Dorothy secured a grant to launch summer programming for local youth. Incorporated in 1999, The Edwin and Dorothy Baker Foundation continues to promote charitable extracurricular and recreational activities for children and youth.

Impact

For over 50 years, DAYS Long Beach has been a cornerstone in the community, providing children and families with opportunities to develop essential skills, apply learned concepts, and foster positive relationships through free educational programming and youth development activities.
