Our Story
Founded in 1998 by June and Jim McHenry in Franklin, Tennessee, Educare began as a response to the urgent need for a batterers’ intervention program. With Jim's expertise as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor and June's background as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, they were called upon by Judges Lonnie Hoover and Al Nations to create a program that would educate individuals involved in domestic violence cases. The program, named "Eristic"—meaning quarreling in Greek—successfully intervened with over one thousand men and several hundred women over the years.
Recognizing the link between substance abuse and domestic violence, Educare expanded its offerings to include psychoeducation classes aimed at guiding individuals toward recovery. After Jim's retirement in 2005 and his passing in 2017, Tony Owens took the helm, ensuring that Educare's mission continued to thrive. In 2018, Educare became a non-profit organization dedicated to spreading hope and healing to those in need.
