Our Story

The Edgecombe County Veterans Military Museum was founded in 2004 by local veteran and attorney Joel Bourne, with the support of community residents and veterans. This museum serves as a tribute to those from Edgecombe County who have bravely served in the armed forces. Over the years, the museum has expanded to showcase over 1,250 framed portraits of veterans and more than 3,500 artifacts, spanning from the Revolutionary War to the conflicts in Afghanistan. Notably, it features a significant collection of World War I items and a dedicated room honoring General Hugh Shelton, a distinguished figure from Edgecombe County.
