About Ecumenical Storehouse
Established in 1984, the Ecumenical Storehouse is a volunteer-driven organization supported by 11 congregations. It accepts, stores, and distributes a wide range of household goods to those in need, particularly focusing on clients from Anderson County and surrounding areas. Many clients are from the Appalachian poor, have lost everything in disasters, or are escaping abusive situations.
Impact of the Storehouse
In 2022, the Storehouse distributed approximately $179,000 worth of used household goods to 288 families, including 361 children, during 356 visits. With the easing of Covid restrictions, a 20% increase in clients served is expected in 2023, while also promoting environmental sustainability by keeping thousands of pounds of reusable goods out of landfills.
