Our Story
The Economic Progress Institute, formerly known as The Poverty Institute, was founded in 1999 by Linda Katz and the late Nancy Gewirtz. This nonpartisan research and policy organization is dedicated to improving the economic well-being of low- and modest-income Rhode Islanders.

Through rigorous research and advocacy, the Economic Progress Institute has documented significant economic challenges faced by Rhode Islanders. Their efforts have led to increased incomes and access to essential services for tens of thousands of residents.
