Our Story

ECHO, or Ecumenical Community Helping Others, was established on May 22, 1968, by representatives from nine Springfield churches. The organization was born from a desire to meet social needs in the community through an ecumenical approach. After months of conceptual development, ECHO was officially incorporated on May 2, 1969, as a nonprofit, charitable, and religious organization. The founding members envisioned a community-driven initiative, empowering laypeople to assist those in need without being clergy-dominated.

Impact in the Community

In recent months, ECHO has made a significant impact by providing food, clothing, housewares, and financial assistance to families in need within the Burke/Springfield area. During July and August alone, ECHO served 343 families, distributing over 51,000 pounds of food, highlighting the urgent need for community support.
