Our Story

Founded in 1984 by Patricia E. Kelly, a U.S. Marine Corp Vietnam-era veteran and African-American cowgirl, Ebony Horsewomen, Inc. (EHI) was established to provide inner-city youth with access to equine-based programming and therapy. Inspired by a child's curiosity about horses, Patricia sought to create opportunities for these youth, ensuring they have access to experiences similar to their suburban peers.

Impact

EHI has expanded its Equine Therapy and Therapeutic Riding programs to address the growing mental health needs of the community, showcasing resilience and dedication to serving those in need, particularly during and after the pandemic.
