About Renewed, Eating Disorders Support

In the 1990s, resources for eating disorders were scarce, particularly for young girls facing these deadly psychiatric and physical conditions. Pioneers Reba Sloan, MPH, LRD, FAED, and Ovidio Bermudez, MD, recognized the need for better support and formed a task force in 1999. This initiative led to the establishment of the Eating Disorders Coalition of Tennessee, which became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2002.

Initially focused on professional education and community prevention, the organization evolved significantly over the years. By 2005, it shifted its focus to a broader call-to-action, engaging healthcare professionals and the community. With increased volunteer support, successful fundraising, and a growing clinician referral network, the organization has become a vital resource for individuals affected by eating disorders.

Now known as Renewed, Eating Disorders Support, the organization continues to serve with compassion and respect, providing free, professional, and confidential referrals for anyone affected by eating disorders. It also offers educational training for healthcare professionals and fosters a supportive community for those on the journey to renewed wellness.
