Community Design and Planning Assistance
Enhancing Quality of Life in East Tennessee

Our Story

The East Tennessee Community Design Center (ETCDC) was established in 1970 to provide professional design and planning services to nonprofit organizations and community groups in East Tennessee. Inspired by a visit to the Community Design Center in Philadelphia, local architect Bruce McCarty rallied 40 professionals to create a resource that would enhance the quality of life in the region. Since its inception, ETCDC has operated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, relying on the dedication of an all-volunteer board and a small staff, funded through competitive grants and generous donations.

Our Impact

ETCDC has successfully delivered pro bono design assistance to over 1200 projects, significantly improving community spaces and fostering engagement throughout East Tennessee.
