Our Story
Founded in 1976 by a passionate group of women, the Heart of Rhode Island Animal Rescue League, formerly known as the East Greenwich Animal Protection League, has been at the forefront of animal welfare in Rhode Island. Initially focused on preventing the euthanasia of stray animals, the organization has evolved into a full-service animal shelter. In 2017, a permanent location was secured in Cranston, RI, allowing for expanded facilities and increased capacity for adoptions and community services.
